Vineyards in the late summer sun, ready for the harvest

Les Vendanges in France

Grape harvesting, working the land.

The grape harvest is a particularly important moment in French culture. Every year, generally between the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, winegrowers harvest the grapes once they have reached maturity in order to begin producing the new vintage.

The month of September therefore marks a very symbolic period for French wine-growing regions, as this is when the vineyards come to life and a new stage in the creation of wine begins. Beyond the simple harvesting of the grapes, the grape harvest represents a true expertise and a tradition that has been passed down through generations.

It is also a time of sharing and conviviality, bringing together producers, estate teams and sometimes even local residents around this activity, which is an integral part of French heritage.

At Chez Max, wine naturally holds an important place. In a French restaurant, it accompanies meals, complements dishes and fully contributes to the experience we want to offer our customers. We therefore like to take advantage of this harvest period to highlight this essential element of our culture and remind people that a good French dish is also best enjoyed with a good glass of wine.

Champagne !!!

And here’s a fun fact to raise a glass to!

This year’s harvest has also brought plenty of attention to the quality and sugar levels of French grapes, particularly following the record summer heat. Warmer and sunnier conditions can lead to grapes reaching higher levels of ripeness and sugar, which can have an impact on the final characteristics of the wine.

So, as the new vintage begins to take shape, there is no better time to celebrate one of France’s most cherished traditions: good food, good wine and the simple pleasure of sharing both around the table.
